The Platzmann Open is held on sand and is part of the ATP Challenger Tour. This primarily serves to give players who fall outside the top 100 in the world rankings a chance to collect enough leaderboard points so they can participate in higher quality tournaments. “Thanks to the Platzmann Open, both young tennis talents and experienced players have the opportunity to compete for top positions in major tournaments every year. “We are proud to be a part of this well-organized event and thus to sponsor regional tennis,” says Nils Rullkötter, Senior Director of Marketing, Communications and Policy at the Gauselmann Group. There is also a special bond with the tournament organizer: Rogier Wassen, himself a once tennis pro, is a longtime customer of Schneider Automaten GmbH, part of the Gauselmann Group.

During tournament week, however, the organizers of the Platzmann Open had to contend with a number of challenges. Heavy downpours repeatedly caused forced breaks and a lousy schedule. Finally, the winner could be determined on the day of the final: The winner of the Platzmann Open was Croatian Duje Ajdukovic, who won the final in two sets (7:5, 6:4) against Bolivian Hugo Dellien. For the 22-year-old, this was the first win in an ATP Challenger. As a reward, 118,000 euros and 100 world ranking points were expected.
